Autumn Statement 2016: "prepare our country to seize the opportunities ahead"

Philip Hammond's first Autumn Statement speech aimed to "prepare our economy to be resilient as we exit the EU".

The Office for Budget Responsibility has revised down its previous growth estimates. The prediction of 2.1 per cent this year is higher than the March figure, although the 1.4 per cent forecast for 2017 is lower than previously estimated.

The chancellor focused on investment in infrastructure and innovation with money allocated for R&D, homebuilding and transport.
